Position Title : Student Success Systems Business Analyst / Consultant

Need your help to source a BSA (Business Systems Analyst) with subject matter expertise on Starfish software.

Job Summary :

We are seeking an experienced Student Success Systems Business Analyst to lead discovery, analysis, and requirements definition for student success platforms, with a focus on EAB Starfish Early Alert. This role will work closely with academic, advising, student services, and IT stakeholders to assess current-state workflows, document processes, and define future-state requirements that support proactive student engagement and improved outcomes.

The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of higher education functional knowledge, process analysis expertise, and experience working with early alert, advising, or student success technologies.

The work produced in this role directly informs decisions around system optimization, process redesign, and long-term student success strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Discovery & Current-State Analysis

• Analyze the current configuration and use of the EAB Starfish Early Alert system, including
• alerts, tracking items, workflows, user roles, and reporting.
• Assess how Early Alert is used by faculty, advisors, and student services staff across the institution.
• Identify gaps, inefficiencies, pain points, and opportunities for improvement in both system usage and supporting business processes.

• Process Mapping

• Facilitate stakeholder interviews and workshops to understand existing workflows.
• Develop clear, end-to-end current-state process maps documenting alert creation, routing, follow-up, resolution, and closure.
• Identify manual steps, handoffs, decision points, and system dependencies.

• Future-State Requirements Definition

• Collaborate with stakeholders to define future-state functional and process requirements aligned with institutional student success goals.
• Translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements suitable for system optimization or reconfiguration.
• Document recommended improvements related to process, policy, configuration, and data usage.

• Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

• Serve as a liaison between functional users, administrators, and technical teams.
• Facilitate working sessions, validate findings, and incorporate feedback into final deliverables.
• Communicate findings, recommendations, and next steps clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Deliverables & Documentation

• Produce high-quality discovery deliverables including assessment summaries, process maps, and requirements documentation.
• Support project planning discussions by providing effort estimates, assumptions, and implementation considerations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Functional Consultant, or similar role within higher education.
• Direct experience working with student success, advising, or early alert systems (EAB Starfish strongly preferred).
• Demonstrated experience conducting discovery engagements, stakeholder interviews, and process mapping.
• Strong documentation skills, including requirements definition and workflow diagrams.
• Excellent facilitation, communication, and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with EAB Starfish Early Alert configuration and operational workflows.
• Familiarity with Banner, PeopleSoft, or other student information systems.
• Experience supporting student retention, advising, or academic support initiatives.
• Consulting experience or experience working across multiple departments.
• Knowledge of higher education governance, advising models, and student success best practices.
