Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3x12 D/N Rotation Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Registered Nurse Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), STABLE Must-Have: Registered Nurse licensure from the relevant nursing board or compact state agreement prior to start date Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association prior to start date Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association prior to start date Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics prior to start date STABLE certification prior to start date Description: The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols. The nurse maintains the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The nurse facilitates the coordination of patient care within the interdisciplinary care team. Patient education is provided to ensure safe patient discharge. Daily rounds on all patients are performed to assure quality customer service by coordinating and taking action on unmet requirements. A plan of care is developed based on assessment reflecting the patient's physical, psychological, social, educational, developmental, and rehabilitative needs. The nurse assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs, sets goals, and prescribes appropriate nursing actions. The physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient are monitored, including discharge planning. The nurse promptly assesses, intervenes, and reassesses the patient's self-report of symptoms of pain. Early warning signs of a change in a patient's condition are identified and responded to appropriately. Emergency measures are instituted for sudden adverse developments in patient conditions. Pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients are reported to the appropriate multidisciplinary team member. All incident reports are completed and submitted prior to the completion of each shift. Communication is established and maintained while utilizing educational opportunities with patients and significant individuals. Discharge planning, appropriate education, and counseling are begun as early as possible based on identified needs. Documentation is completed according to standard operating procedures. Responsibilities for nursing interventions may be assigned or delegated to other persons as appropriate. Other duties may be performed as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department or organization.
