Job Title: Registered Nurse - L&D Specialty Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Active RN License required Certifications: BLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate (Advanced preferred), STABLE Must-Have: 3 years of experience in Labor and Delivery Ability to float as needed Experience with titrating drips Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery. The unit accommodates both labor and delivery as well as postpartum care. There are dedicated beds for labor, postpartum, and surgical patients. The RN is expected to manage a 1:1 to 1:2 patient ratio during labor and deliveries. Postpartum duties involve caring for couplets and surgical patients. Common patient diagnoses include gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, and diabetes. RNs will be responsible for administering medications and titrating drips like Pitocin and magnesium sulfate. Charge nurses take an assignment and participate in deliveries, conducting APGARS. RNs are encouraged to scrub during procedures as needed. The unit has access to OB and Neonatologist on call 24/7. Anesthesia is also available on site around the clock. Registered Nurses must be proficient in reading cardiac telemetry. The department utilizes a remote telemetry system for monitoring. Shifts are scheduled six weeks in advance with consideration of sleep schedules. Weekend shifts are required every third weekend, with holiday shifts as needed. Floating to other units may occur, including pediatrics, NICU, and medical-surgical units. Surgical scrubs are provided for all staff members. High patient satisfaction has been reported in the department.
