Headwaters, Inc. is seeking an individual to join our qualified and experienced natural resource professionals. The Headwaters Team provides all aspects of natural resources based environmental permitting and regulatory compliance. Our full range of services includes environmental planning, site evaluations, route analysis, NEPA compliance and effective navigation through the regulatory permitting processes. Our philosophy for approaching the environmental process is based primarily upon taking a positive approach to finding solutions to address client needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with performing delineations of wetlands/waters of the U.S. per U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) requirements and prepare wetland data reports/requests for Preliminary Determinations to submit to the USACE Support permit application preparation and monitoring of LDNR/USACE Joint Permit Applications, Section 401 Water Quality Certifications requests, LDWF Scenic River Permits, and any other federal/state/local permits. Travel regularly throughout south Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region to various field sites; travel to other areas may be required.
  • Identify short and long-term environmental concerns and offer valuable insight regarding the most effective permitting strategies for client needs.
  • Perform regulatory background research for new projects to determine the level of permitting required to assist in proposal creation.
  • Design and prepare construction storm water pollution prevention plans.
  • Completion of construction storm water and regulatory compliance inspections and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team on large projects.
  • Maintain environmental, health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain and expand professional knowledge and skill sets through participating in educational opportunities, growing professional networks, becoming a member of respected professional societies, and staying abreast of industry trends.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Botany, Wildlife Sciences or related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in environmental-related fieldwork, including course related fieldwork is preferred, but not required.
  • High attention to detail and organization.
  • Experience with plant identification in the Southeastern US/Gulf Coast area.
  • Familiarity with mapping software such as ArcGIS, Survey 123, and GPS devices.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong written and communication skills.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to maneuver on foot over uneven, remote terrain in inclement weather.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team on larger projects.
  • Drug screenings, background checks, safety training, etc. are required for this position.
  • Must be able to carry loads up to 30 lbs. conduct shovel tests, operate all-terrain vehicles, hook-up and tow large utility trailers.
