Under the general direction of the Correctional Sergeant, the Correctional Officer will utilize their firsthand experience, knowledge, and understanding of the correctional law enforcement environment and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) institutional operations to assist in and facilitate the creation, implementation, metrics, maintenance, marketing and evaluation of statewide employee wellness programs and initiatives for CDCR and California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) employees and their families. The incumbent must draw from their correctional experience to build and maintain rapport statewide with departmental staff in order to encourage their utilization of the wellness programs and offer internal insight into the complexity and sensitivity of issues facing correctional staff and their families. The incumbent will utilize their correctional knowledge and expertise to become proficient in all wellness programs so they may effectively and conscientiously provide evaluation of such programs, provide feedback and recommend changes. Must work effectively under stressful conditions, work effectively and cooperatively under the pressure of working weekends, holidays, extended and rotating shifts (day/night) as needed or directed by the department head. Be prepared for statewide travel, on short notice, to and from various CDCR, CCHCS, and DJJ facilities, camps and offices for extended periods of time.  Maintain confidentiality regarding all information of a personal or professional nature of employees who request services from OEW.

The California Department of Corrections Rehabilitation (CDCR) Headquarters has implemented a new automated system to streamline the hiring process. The Human Resources Technology System (HRTS) is an intuitive, user-friendly system that provides the applicant access to real-time updates throughout the hiring process. HRTS will require new candidates to set up an account, which allows them to track their application’s progress. Through their account portal, candidates will also be able to provide any additional information needed in the hiring process, including setting up interviews as needed. Working Conditions

The position(s) is eligible for hybrid telework, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Regular and consistent attendance is critical to the successful performance of this position. You must be regularly available and willing to work the hours necessary to meet business needs.

This is a limited term position which may be extended.

Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ)

The  SOQ  submitted must be typed, single-spaced, a maximum of two (2) pages in length, and 12-point font with one-inch margins. Your SOQ response must include your first and last name and "Statement of Qualifications" on the top left of the page. The questions must be restated and numbered in the same order as listed on the bulletin and include specific examples to thoroughly answer the questions.

2. Describe your experience developing or providing trainings. Provide at least one example of how you have incorporated elements of wellness into a training or lesson you have either developed or delivered.
3. OEW is a multi-disciplinary office that works collaboratively with various stakeholders. Describe what collaboration means to you and give an example of a time you had to work collaboratively to accomplish a goal.
